Abstract
As a clinical instructor in anesthesiology, you have an ongoing study in the Interventional Radiology (IR) Suite. Patients in the IR Suite routinely get cold during general anesthesia. This is because the patient is usually fully exposed and the rooms are cold. Since X-rays are being used, water blankets can’t be employed. Air convection surface heaters (Bair Hugger) are of little use because they cover up the body and will be in the way of the IR physician.
In an effort to prevent hypothermia to the patient, you have obtained an IRB approval to study a new noninvasive surface heater applied to the limbs.
