Abstract
Comprehensive sex offender evaluations form the foundation for designing and delivering appropriate services to this population. This chapter focuses on how mental health professionals can prepare to conduct evaluations, match evaluation strategies to clients’ stage of change, use a sequenced interview protocol and specialized interview strategies, identify clients’ treatment needs, formulate appropriate disposition plans, and evaluate successful treatment completion. The importance of evaluators developing a good collaborative working relationship with clients is emphasized.
