Abstract
Gynecologic oncology patients undergoing surgical staging or cytoreductive surgery may experience significant postoperative morbidity, and often require admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). Of all gynecologic cancer patients, ovarian cancer patients are the most commonly admitted to the ICU. The vast majority of gynecologic oncology patients admitted to the ICU require volume resuscitation and/or mechanical ventilation. Upon admission to the ICU, many gynecologic oncology patients are not managed by a board certified intensivist, and therefore having a working knowledge of critical care is vital as a gynecologic oncologist.
