Abstract

There is increasing emphasis on quality, value, and transparency in healthcare. Quality improvement initiatives and attention to process improvement within bariatric programs are critical to performing bariatric surgery in the modern environment. Increased attention to quality measures, outcome reporting, and risk adjustment is expected in the field of bariatric surgery in the coming years. Understanding the key concepts and trends regarding patient safety and participating in accreditation and quality improvement programs are important for the continued success of any bariatric surgery program.
