Abstract
This chapter describes Unit 3 of the Couple CARE for Parents (CPP) program, which focuses on effective couple conflict management. The chapter describes how a professional can review couples’ current patterns of conflict management, and help the couple identify ground rules to manage conflict effectively. In addition there is a description of how in CPP couples can be assisted to self-evaluate their conflict communication skills, set goals for enhancing conflict management, and explore how each partner currently recovers after a conflict. Finally, we discuss common challenges in teaching couples effective conflict management, and how to manage those challenges.
