Abstract
Laparoscopic proctectomy for cancer presents several technical challenges due to the bony confines of the pelvis, close proximity of adjacent structures, potential for large tumors, and limitations of currently available technology. By understanding the anatomy and utilizing a stepwise, reproducible technique, you can minimize the inherent difficulty and potential pitfalls associated with this procedure. In this chapter, I will describe a technique of laparoscopic proctectomy, highlight potential challenges you may encounter, and outline strategies to deal with them.
