Abstract
Immunohistochemistry is a multistep pathology-based diagnostic tool that allows the visualization and identification in situ of specific cellular antigens that may be altered in response to a disease process or exposure to a toxicant. The technique is now well established and continually evolving for routine and research use, for clinical diagnosis, and in a toxicologic pathology laboratory. While quality control guidelines have been recommended for assays in clinical use, similar guidelines remain to be established for a toxicological pathology laboratory.
