Rectal Resections

This section introduces the reader to the operations that remove the rectum, including the low anterior resection and the abdominoperineal resection. The major indication for these operations, including rectal carcinoma and recurrent anal cancer, is described in detail. Transanal excision for small rectal tumors is also introduced. A classic case of rectal cancer is described and questions are provided for review.
