Abstract
Delayed ejaculation is a condition characterized by difficulty achieving orgasm and extended ejaculatory latency. For many men and their partners, this condition results in a significant reduction in sexual satisfaction and psychological well-being, contributing to anxiety, distress, poor confidence, and low self-esteem, among other issues. As a whole, there is a paucity of research in this area, and few reports provide systematic analysis or data from controlled studies. Despite this, there are a number of researchers who have provided new insights, treatment pathways, and potential treatment options. The review of this literature suggests it is important to take a biopsychosocial approach to assessment and treatment of delayed ejaculation. The potential causes of delayed ejaculation include a range of possibilities such as neurological damage, hormonal imbalance, and psychosexual issues. Thus, the diagnosis and treatment may be multifaceted in approach.
