An “Electrical Equation of State” of Metals Determined by an Exploding Wire Technique

  • Chapter
Exploding Wires

Abstract

Using pulsed x rays and sheath suppressing methods, quantitative measurements have been made of density, conductivity, energy content, and metal vapor velocity in wire explosions. From these data an “electrical equation of state” can be calculated. This relation between physical density and electrical parameters such as conductivity can be extended through the critical region. The methods used and the calculations involved are described and typical results are presented for copper and tin.
