Statistical inference is concerned with how we draw conclusions from sample data about the larger population from which the sample is selected. In the previous chapter we discussed one branch of inference, namely estimation, particularly confidence interval estimation. Another important branch of inference is hypothesis testing which is the subject of much of the remainder of this book. See Fig. 10.1.
