Specimens from the female genital system are among the most common received by most pathology laboratories. Of these, endometrial curettings and cervical biopsies greatly outnumber the rest. With the increasing use of colposcopy and laparoscopic biopsy of ovarian and peritoneal lesions, the numbers of specimens from the cervix and ovary are likely to increase.
