Abstract

Surgical specimens from the pituitary gland are usually taken at transsphenoidal hypophysectomy. As with biopsies from the CNS, these specimens will normally be received only in hospitals that have a neurosurgery or specialized ENT department. The specimens consist of fragments of pituitary gland with or without adenoma or other neoplasm.
