Abstract

The Ellis—Van Creveld syndrome is a rare disorder which has been reported in many countries (the only exception to the rarity of the disease is to be found in an Amish group of people in Pennsylvania. Probably at least part of the reason for this is the high rate of inter-marriage). Both sexes are equally affected. Ultra-sound scanning after the 16th week of pregnancy can show the extra fingers on the hands which are a feature of the condition.
