Abstract
A variety of operative techniques has been used to correct renal artery stenoses in the past 20 years. These techniques include aortorenal bypass using saphenous vein, autogenous hypogastric artery or synthetic material, endarterectomy, renal artery reimplantation, and extra-anatomical procedures such as splenorenal anastomosis and hepatorenal bypass. Whereas thromboendarterectomy and renal artery reimplantation are only suitable for proximal or orificial lesions, aortorenal bypass can be employed for either atherosclerotic disease or fibromuscular dysplasia of the renal artery.
