Abstract

Zomepirac is a new nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic that is chemically related to tolmetin; it is an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthetase. Clinical trials have shown that zomepirac is a potent and effective analgesic, more effective than aspirin, and possibly preferable to oral narcotics for moderate pain (not relieved by aspirin) since there is no apparent tolerance or potential for addiction. This compound is not a substitute for parenteral morphine in the treatment of severe pain.
