Papaverine HCl
  • Ronald J. Tallarida

Papaverine is a nonspecific smooth muscle relaxant capable of dilating arteries in the coronary, cerebral, and systemic circulations. It also has been shown to depress A-V nodal and intraventricular conduction in high enough doses. Though widely prescribed in the treatment of cerebral spasm and myocardial ischemia complicated by arrhythmias, its efficacy in these conditions is questionable.
