The Hippocampal and Septal Formations in Anurans

  • Chapter
Evolution of the Forebrain

Abstract

The present paper represents the results of a morphologic study of the medial hemisphere wall of the forebrain of the tailless amphibians. In an earlier publication concerned with the telencephalon of anurans (Hoffmansc, 1963), the hippocampal and the septal formations were identified and some of their connections reported. This current study has provided the opportunity for a further elaboration of these cellular configurations and will afford a background for subsequent experimental investigations of such areas.

This investigation was supported in part by research grant (NB-01804) from the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Blindness, the National Institute of Health, U.S. Public Health Service.
