Abstract

Weanling rats fed diets deficient in choline develop fatty livers promptly and bilateral renal cortical hemorrhagic necrosis within a period of 6–8 days. Impairment of the mobilization of fat from the liver because of the low availability of methyl donor compounds appears to be the cause of the liver fat accumulation. The mechanism of the development of the nephropathy is poorly understood.
