Abstract
The carbides presented here are commonly found in low-alloy steels. Where the symbol M occurs in the chemical formula this represents a fixed total of metal atoms of different kinds. In this respect therefore it is possible to find carbides with the same metal-carbon ratio but with different proportions of metal atoms. Differences in the lattice parameters are therefore found for such carbides. Thuss, although lattice parameters are given and M is not specified, these are included to demonstrate the range of d-spacings and are only very slightly different from the d-spacings of any other carbide which fits the particular chemical formula.
