Practical Design Based on Method (Fundamental Design Method)

  • E. Matchett
  • A. H. Briggs

This chapter has three primary objectives:
  1. (1)

To introduce a method of developing further the design skills possessed by senior practising designers, laying particular emphasis on the kind of learning environment which has been created for this purpose.

  1. (2)

To outline some of the kinds of thought and feelings that a designer experiences during this development process in which formalized design projects are integrated with more traditional methods of designing.

  1. (3)

To invite discussion on possible weaknesses in such learning processes and how they might be overcome, and on how their strengths might be further exploited — both in connection with designers of considerable experience, and those just entering the profession, whose level of skill will influence tremendously the pattern and quality of future civilization.
