Abstract

A unique feature of the image furnace is that the heat flux available to an object at the focal plane is a constant regardless of the object’s temperature. While this feature appears self-evident, it has not been widely exploited, in the solution of some heat flow problems, partly because of the small area of uniform irradiance, but also because the goal of most image furnace research has been to obtain the very highest possible temperatures, regardless of the area.
