Part of the book series: Scottish Universities’ Summer School ((SUSS))

Abstract

THESE lectures will be mainly concerned with two-body collisions of hadrons at high energy. Such collisions are of the type

$$A + C \to C + D$$
([1])

A, B, C and D being hadrons, i.e. strongly interacting particles. They can be mesons, baryons and antibaryons. For the few choices of incident particles A, B for which actual collision experiments can be carried out, a considerable body of experimental information is now available. Depending on the case, the outgoing particles C and D can be stable, long-lived or short-lived hadrons, including mesonic, baryonic or antibaryonic resonances. In many cases they are detected through their decay products.
