Abstract
When I was asked to participate in this debate I was firstly flattered that such an audience might be interested in my contribution, and secondly somewhat alarmed because although my knowledge of nutrition might cover rather more than the back of the average postage stamp I felt fairly convinced that it could all be got down on the average postcard. When I saw the details of the programme I was comforted to see that the ‘real’ experts would be covering the complexities of cholesterol and fat, sugar, fibre and salt.
