Abstract
Brian Clarkâs brilliant and insightful play, Whose life is it anyway? (1978) surrounds a former sculptor, currently a C4 quadriplegic, who questions whether a life of complete physical dependency and inactivity can have any value, quality or pleasure. He elects to die rather than have an active brain and no opportunities for that brain to direct anything.
If a society has the technology to keep this patient alive, then it must consider the human being and adapt its technology to respect the dignity of the life it has saved.
