Abstract

The Division of Building Research (NRC of Canada) operates a laboratory for testing the thermophysical properties of materials using a number of guarded hot plate and heat flow meter apparatus. This laboratory operates on a 24-hour, 7-day schedule under the supervision of a mini-computer based data acquisition and control system. The computer system controls the apparatus, reads, processes and logs the test data, and monitors the various test stations for alarm conditions. Should the power to the computer fail, the system control defaults to analog controllers and the data can be read using a high precision, manually operated potentiometer measuring system.
