Solid Friction on Lattice and Spin Modulations

In many cases, lattice or spin modulations show a hyster-etic motion. The possible origins of the solid friction responsible for this behaviour are two-folds:
  • lattice friction on weakly commensurate modulations.

  • friction due to lattice defects on uncommensurate modulations.
