Abstract

The parathyroid glands are endocrine glands which produce parathormone (PTH), a hormone essential for the control of calcium metabolism. Clinical parathyroid disease occurs as a result of over-production or under-production of PTH, or from parathyroid cancer which may also result in hyperparathyroidism.
