Head injury and related neurosurgical techniques
Head injury is a leading cause of death in children and young adults. Remember that, in order to achieve a good outcome — or the best possible outcome given the severity of the brain damage — your patient requires:
effective initial resuscitation in the field;
rapid diagnosis and treatment in Accident and Emergency/primary surgical unit;
appropriate neurosurgical referral;
neurosurgical intensive care.
