Abstract
The overriding goal of managing childbearing experience is the wellbeing of both the mother and the baby. Maternal and neonatal risks of 100 years ago are drastically diminished. The focus is now on the quality of the experience and how the passage through the obstetric system affects the family, both medically and psychologically.
