The area of verification and validation is an increasingly wide sphere of activity which is gaining greater importance as demand for Open Systems across differing architectures grows. There has been a noticable increase in interest in software quality assurance and in product conformance over recent months with accreditation procedures being established, branding programmes announced and standards efforts being completed. This paper reviews the requirements for verification in the Open Systems marketplace and outlines some of the principles involved in producing software and providing services to meet these demands.
