Abstract
The optical activity of molecules is extremely sensitive to changes in their structure, particularly to conformational transformations, and depends to a large extent on intermolecular interactions. The reason for this high sensitivity is quite clear, lying in the difference in the phases of a light wave at different points in an asymmetric molecule. In studying the optical activity of a molecule, we are thus investigating the interference of light waves in it [63].
