Abstract

It is shown that all joint systems developed on local uplifts have a strict spatial correlation with the orientation of bedding planes. In order to make a valid comparison of joint trends, the probability distribution of joint trends of a single system has been examined. This distribution agrees closely with the Fisher distribution at the initial time of joint development. Through plastic deformation of the material in the bed, this distribution is systematically destroyed with time.
