Part of the book series: Contemporary Systems Thinking ((CST))

Abstract

Soft systems thinking opens up a completely new perspective on the way systems ideas can and should be used to help with decision making and problem resolving. It arguably brings within the scope of proper treatment all those wicked, messy, and ill-structured problems that either escape or are distorted by the systems methodologies so far considered because of the strict prerequisites that need to be met before those methodologies can be employed. The result has been a massive extension of the area within which systems thinking can be used to help with real-world problem management.
