Application of NMR Imaging to Polymers: A Tutorial

  • Chapter
Solid State NMR of Polymers

Abstract

In conventional NMR spectrometers, the liquid or solid sample is placed in a homogeneous magnetic field, Bo, so that all chemically equivalent spins experience the same field and hence precess at the same Larmor angular frequency ωo given by

$$ {\omega _o}\; = \;\gamma {B_o}, $$

where γ is the magnetogyric ratio. Under these circumstances, the observed proton NMR spectrum of water consists of a single sharp line with an intrinsic width of about 0.1 Hz.
