Abstract
Waves at sea are not only interesting to watch — they are of vital importance to marine activities. A large fraction of losses of lives and ships are due to the action of large waves in rough weather. Detailed observations of wave-height, period, and other characteristics have therefore been performed at many locations all over the world.
