Abstract
The increasing use of membranes in gas separation technology is limited on a technical scale to solubility-membrane, in which the transport-mechanisms through the solid phase are realized by adsorption, diffusion and desorption. Nevertheless, studies can still be found in the literature in which the use of porous membranes for the separation of gases is proposed as viable. Indeed, the development of new membranes and modul arrangements appears to have lent new, interesting aspects to this classical procedure[1,2,3]. The separation-effect of porous systems is based on pore-diffusion which, according to Knudsen[4], is inversely proportional to the molecular weight of the diffusing gases.
