Intimate Partner Violence among Immigrants

  • Chapter
Handbook of Immigrant Health

Abstract

Intimate partner violence in the immigrant household may have begun in the country of origin or it may have started upon arrival to the United States. Numerous problems arising in conjunction with immigration may contribute to the initiation or continuation of intimate partner violence, including unemployment, role changes between the intimate partners, disintegration of extended family networks, and lack of English-speaking ability (Jang, Lee, & Morello-Frosch, 1990).
