Abstract
Protein phosphorylation is a ubiquitous cellular control mechanism the study of which has expanded enormously over the past decade.1–4 The nervous system has contributed significantly to these advances, for the brain is an exceptionally rich source of protein kinases, protein phosphatases, and their acceptor substrates. Several reviews of current research into various aspects of protein phosphorylation in neural tissues are available.5–7
