Abstract
In the chapters of this book, we have reviewed different aspects related to early urban societies. For Mesopotamia, we have stressed the importance of centralized storage embedded in village modes of life during the Hassuna period, and afterwards centered in the administrative organization of the temples during the Ubaid and Uruk periods, giving rise to the first urban developments of Lower Mesopotamia (Manzanilla 1983, 1986).
