Formation of Eicosanoids during Differentiation of Thp-1 Cells

Chapter
Part of the Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology book series (AEMB, volume 407)

Abstract

Monocytes and macrophages play important roles in many host reactions. They can mediate immune and inflammation processes via the production and release of a variety of soluble mediators such as radicals like Superoxide anions (O2 ), cytokines like tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-α) and eicosanoids like prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). These biological active agents are also known to modulate cell differentiation and proliferation.
