The Symbiotic Interaction between Azorhizobium caulinodans and Sesbania rostrata

Molecular Cross-Talk in a Beneficial Plant-Bacterium Interaction

Plant-Microbe Interactions

Part of the book series: Subcellular Biochemistry ((SCBI,volume 29))

Abstract

Biological nitrogen fixation, the enzymatic reduction of atmospheric dinitrogen to ammonia, is carried out by a limited number of prokaryotic organisms. They all possess an oxygen-sensitive nitrogenase enzyme complex that functions at ambient temperature and pressure and requires high ATP consumption to drive electron transport to N2.
