Abstract
Heliscomyids were among the smallest rodents from North America, both fossil and Recent. The skull was sciuromorphous (Fig. 15.1) and the rostrum was narrow (laterally). There is no indication of sagittal or lyrate crests on the frontal bones. There is a distinct parapterygoid fossa on the posterior palatal surface as in all other geomyoids.
