Abstract

Thrips are one of the major pests of economically important plants in Thailand. Many crops, including vegetables, are damaged. Numerous thrips species are found in Southeast Asia, but the list of thrips in Thailand is relatively short. Among the pests of vegetables, thrips are considered the most destructive sucking insect in both highland and lowland areas. The important species are Scirtothrips dorsalis and Thrips parvispinus on chili; T. tabaci on onion, shallot, garlic, watermelon and asparagus; Haplothrips sp. on cucumber; T. flavus on tomato; T. palmi on okra and eggplant and Pygmaeothrips charactis on mushroom.
