Abstract
Monitoring is an indispensable component of iodine prophylactic programs. Many examples exist of iodization programs that were initially successful but later failed for lack of sustained monitoring. While inadequate commitment is the greatest obstacle in developing an iodine program, complacency is the greatest enemy of established programs.
