Abstract
The National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC) is a facility mandated by Congress to provide a new window into information on federal R & D activities and resources. Its goal is to expedite by this means the transfer of federally funded technology to American business and industry. The center is linking together an extensive array of existing and evolving databases on the Federal R & D laboratory system, new federal technology developments and other federal R & D resource and technology transfer information. The Center’s staff of information professionals and technology transfer agents use this resource to find the best possible match between federal research endeavors and a client’s needs, to identify the most appropriate contact points for the client in the federal technology transfer or research system, and then mediate the initial interaction between the two. Located in Wheeling, West Virginia, access to NTTC is via a toll-free 800 phone line for individual mediated requests or via toll-carrying bulletin board/E-mail connections for quick reference information.
