Abstract

Phospholipase A2 (PLA2, E.C. 3.1.1.4) hydrolyzes phospholipids, e.g. phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylinositol into corresponding lysocompounds. PLA2 is the rate-limiting enzyme in the formation of eicosanoids, which are mediators of inflammation. It is assumed that PLA2 plays an important role in the pathology of various diseases, such as acute pancreatitis, septic shock and multiple injuries [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
