Liposaccharides and Capsules of the HAP Group Bacteria

  • Chapter
Book cover Haemophilus, Actinobacillus, and Pasteurella

Abstract

As with other Gram-negative bacteria, the liposaccharides (LS) and capsules of the organisms of the Haemophilus, Actinohacillus, and Pasteurella (HAP) group serve as the principal interface between the organism and the environment, As such, they play a fundamental role in determining an organism’s pathogenic potential, Understanding the interactions between the bacterium and its environment at a structure/function level as well as those factors which provide a protective rather than destructive host response is important in improving our ability to limit these organisms’ potential to cause disease.
