Abstract
Theories of drug abuse can be categorized according to the disciplines of each individual theorist. While each one of these perspectives sheds a certain amount of light on the process of drug abuse, none of them alone describes the process precisely enough to provide a framework for making predictions about individual behavior.
This article is a modification of “An Adlerian approach toward a self-esteem theory of deviance: a drug abuse model” which appeared in Journal of Alcohol & Drug Education, Vol. 24, 1978, pp. 1–13.
