Folate and Human Milk

Abstract

Folate is necessary for normal cell growth and division. Deficiency of the vitamin in infancy may lead to growth retardation, deranged function of the bone marrow, delayed maturation of the central nervous system, and functional and histological changes in the small intestine; enteritis and other infections have also been described (as reviewed in (1)).
